'We decided to clad the buildings in rusted steel. What does it means to build in rust? Memory is the substance of a person's life, and an individual with severe memory loss loses his or her own life. What is rust but an evocation of the passing of time? So to build in rust – to make something at the beginning from a material that signifies its end – is to recognise from the start the ephemerality of creation.'
